Behind the Scenes Part 6
Hello, I’m Robert Metzger. I’m a ghost writer. We are behind the scenes in a video studio. I’m going to take you behind the scenes in the process of ghostwriting a book.
Today’s topic is the final manuscript, which is the sixth in a series of videos. If you haven’t already watched the first five, please watch them first, to get the context.
The final manuscript will look different from the previous drafts you have seen. It will have front matter — title page, table of contents, table of illustrations, etc. This is the time for you to write a dedication page, if you want one.
The body of the text will include all of the photos and diagrams that we have licensed or have paid to be created. It will also include all of the screen shots and source listings that you provided. They will be inserted in the proper
place in the manuscript.
While I will give you a single PDF of the entire manuscript, I will also give you separate files for each chapter, and for each photograph and illustration. You may have other uses for them. For example, your publisher may want to use one of those illustrations in the cover art.
The manuscript will also have back matter — appendices, end notes, indices, etc. The index or indices will be generated by an AI program that I wrote.
Your publisher may insist on hiring a professional indexer to produce another index. Make sure that their index includes all of the references from the one that I provide you. My program finds topics that human indexers don’t find.
You will need to read the entire manuscript again from front to back. We will have another review meeting, covering the entire manuscript.
Once you are happy with the manuscript, my work is done. You can make your final payment to me, and start working with your publisher to turn your manuscript into a printed book.
This concludes our series. I hope that you have found it informative.
